Caldeirão

Documentary / Experimental | HD - S8 | ~60 min (PT - FR)

A film by: Esquadrão Camarão

Every year, hundreds of birds lost during their annual migration are swept by autumn storms to the Caldeirão, the volcanic crater of Corvo Island. Most die there, unable to resume their migration. But the Caldeirão is also considered one of the best locations for recording birdsong. The film departs from the history of the island's destruction and the centuries-long economic relationship between its inhabitants and the birds — which provided feathers, fat, and meat for transatlantic trade — into a drift on modes of listening to and observing the territory.
